Muji, renowned for its philosophy of designing minimalistically, yet adequately and not compromising on a product’s function, presents ‘Product Fitness 80’, an exhibition showcasing everyday products which designs are reduced to 80% of their original size. Inspired by the Japanese adage, ‘Eat in measure and defy the doctor’ for better health and a balanced life, and in response to the Great Japan Earthquake of 11 March 2011, which serves as a poignant reminder for one not to take the things around us for granted, and increases one’s concern for mankind’s excessive consumption of goods and materials, Muji relooks its determination to pursue craftsmanship that is in harmony with society and the earth. The exhibition educates and brings a message of adequacy in our daily living, and reminds that the responsibility of caring for the environment begins from each one of us.
